PEKAN TENUN DAN SONGKET

UKM Gallery in the end of February is about Tenun and Songket.

Almost every cultural areas in Indonesia have original textile, like Tenun and Songket.  Such as Bali with their amazing Tenun Grinsing, the unique things about Tenun Gringsing is a double strapped techniques which is very difficult and rare in the world. You can found only in India (Tenun Patola in Gujarat) and in Indonesia (Tenun Gringsing in desa Tenganan Bali). It takes about 2 years to finish the complexity of double strapped. Unfortunately, not all of Indonesian people notice about their owned unique heritage.

UKM Gallery, as its motto (Preserving The Indonesian Heritage) would like to help preserve and promote Indonesian Tenun and Songket by held an event "PEKAN TENUN AND SONGKET"  on 19 - 28 February 2010. Currently, the most comprehensive collection for Indonesian Tenun and Songket is in UKM Gallery. You don’t have to go to Bali or Palembang to buy Tenun Grinsing or Palembang's Songket which known with "Limar Bintang" pattern.
